Toyah has recorded a brand new version of America For Beginners for the soundtrack album for forthcoming movie 1985. The track is available digitally via Bandcamp with pre-orders now open for the soundtrack CD.
Shot on black-and-white Super 16mm film, “1985″ takes a unique look at a pivotal moment in American history through the prism of empathy, love and family. Written & Directed by Yen Tan, the film is released theatrically this October in America with worldwide screenings expected to follow.
Closeted advertising executive Adrian (Cory Michael Smith, “Gotham”) returns to his Texas hometown after three years away for the holidays during the first wave of the AIDS crisis. Burdened with an unspeakable tragedy in New York City, Adrian looks to reconnect with his family, When he reaches out to his estranged childhood friend Carly, their unresolved issues force Adrian to confront an uncertain future that will significantly alter the lives of those around him.
America For Beginners (Nocturne Blue Redux) is available as a separate digital track and on a soundtrack album release, 1985: Music from & inspired by the motion picture featuring new Original Music & Additional Score by Dutch Rall. Toyah recorded brand new vocals for the track recorded at The Old Smithy Recording Studios, UK whilst Bass, Synths, Guitars, Electronics, additional voices are handled by the track’s producer Dutch Rall in Oak Cliff, Texas.
The album also features new music by Ramsey, Nocturne Blue, Moushumi, and more with original score by Curtis Heath and Dutch Rall. This includes a stunning cover version of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill featuring King Crimson’s Tony Levin.
