A studio re-recording of back catalogue songs in an electric style with Toyah’s 1990s touring live band was released in 1995, initially conceived as the double album Toyah Classics.
- The set included material from Toyah’s Safari Records period and a rockier reinterpretation of the 1987 album title track Desire.
- This album acts as a sister set to the unplugged acoustic re-workings found on The Acoustic Album collection, also produced in the same recording sessions in 1994.
- Looking Back was released on CD and cassette in 1995. A re-pressing was available in 1998 with an alternate picture disc CD.
- In 2001 the recording was made available again on CD on the Cedar imprint with a vintage 1980s live shot of Toyah rather than the contemporary photography taken by Dean Stockings.
- The following note from Toyah appeared inside the album:
- Toyah sleevenote: My success has always been due to my fans, since 1979, maybe even earlier. I’ve had a following that has been constant and supportive of my choices as a singer and actress. Some of these fans met at my concerts and married, and now have children, some now even work for me. I’m ever grateful to them and with our history in mind Looking Back was made, and who knows a few newcomers may join the Tribe too.Be Proud, Be Loud Be Heard.
