TOYAH’S BLOG: JUNE 2022

HELLO THERE!
AT LAST!
TWO YEARS ON AND WE ARE FINALLY ON THE ROAD!

We are up and running and what a fantastic show we have for you. There’s Art Pop, there’s Punk Pop and a healthy sprinkling of Grunge Pop.
Three fantastic Ladies rocking out!

If I knew in April 2020 how long this would have taken I think I would have lived in fear of normality never returning.
There are some beautiful full circle threads attaching with this tour.

Lene Lovich has always been an inspiration to me and to be working with her is a dream fulfilled.
Saffron has been a long-time friend and bright light to not only myself but to Gemma Numan too, always there giving energy.

Last week I had my hair done by my lifelong friend Derek Goddard, who I first met at the age of 14 when I became a hair model for him at Rackhams department store in Birmingham, travelling the length of Great Britian modelling hair for Wella. We have been friends ever since. Derek notoriously dyed my hair cornflower blue when I was 15 and that was the beginning of a tumultuous show down with my mother that never quite resolved.

Derek and I decided for the tour my hair should be a metallic silver, so it changes colour under the lights. It also means I won’t be sending pink-haired readings to film directors requesting to see me read, it’s an absolute no no to do this in the casting world.

There’s six tour costumes planned for the tour. All a bit weather dependant i.e.: the hotter the month gets the skimpier the costumes get! I’ve also planned them to go with the venues because we are in some incredibly beautiful visual venues.

Frippy and I will be able to continue SUNDAY LUNCH, OBJECTS OF DESIRE and TOYAH AT HOME. On Sunday 19 June, the day of the ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL we have a SUNDAY LUNCH special planned. Fripp came up with this concept and was adamant it is performed.

On the road I will have an assistant for the first time in 38years!

My life is just too busy now, the days are 20hours long and having Lee J on the road with me will keep me on track with the social media timetable and everything else going on……..two potential albums in the making, appearing in an iconic BBC radio show and everything else to do with the FRIPP/COX world, is essential.

Lee J and I are both Vegan, I’ve never toured being Vegan so this will be interesting. I find on film sets the meal put aside for me being vegetarian always gets eaten by a meat eater, so it might be that Lee J and I have to hide our food.

There’s an exclusive TOYAH T-SHIRT for the tour too, plus I have done a limited number of TOYAH LOVE YOUR LIFE/ TOYAH LIVE YOUR DREAMS gilt pages for framing.

I had to turn down an offer to be in the Queen’s Jubilee Parade, it falls on the 5th June when I need to travel to Edinburgh. It broke my heart because as the organisers pointed out, this will never happen again, its history in the making but I felt strongly that 7 hours on top if a bus would wreck my voice and my audience in Edinburgh want me to be in full swing and I agree.

There will be plenty of pics from the road on TOYAH FACEBOOK and we will keep you updated all the way.

Thank you everyone for the lovely Birthday messages, we had three gorgeous days of celebrating each other.

SEE YOU OUT THERE.

I AM NOW SETTING OFF TO ROCK!
BE LOUD, BE HEARD, BE PROUD!
LOVE TOYAH
